In March 2008, PWYP-Canada was officially launched with a total of 7 members. The new Canadian coalition discussed the adoption of a work plan that includes:
• An advocacy campaign for the implementation of EITI in Canada, both at the federal and provincial levels
• An advocacy campaign targeting Canadian companies to publish what they pay
• Strengthening the coalition and expanding membership of the coalition
Following this, the coalition has been involved in advocacy urging the Canadian government to implement recommendations from a series of national roundtables on Corporate Social Responsibility. The coalition has also been conducting extensive media outreach and awareness raising surrounding revenue transparency in the extractive industries.
Furthermore, PWYP-Canada organized a roundtable on May 9 focusing on the performances of Nexen, Petro-Canada and Talisman as reported in the 2008 Report on Revenue Transparency of Oil and Gas Companies. This event brought together civil society actors and the Canadian government to discuss revenue transparency of Canadian oil companies.
