Recent activities

In February, a leading member of the PWYP affiliated coalition in Timor Leste ‘Core Group on Transparency’ La’o Hamutuk published the findings of a two-year research project exploring the benefits, costs, risks and opportunities that a pipeline and liquefied natural gas plant could bring to the country and identifying concrete actions to maximize benefits and minimize risks. The 130-page report titled “Timor-Leste: Dreams, Realities and Challenges” is available in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with summaries in Tetum.
Timor-Leste was accepted as an EITI candidate country in February. In discussions about the level of information to be disclosed in the EITI reports, companies requested that information is aggregated. Local civil society groups, with the support from PWYP International, CAFOD and Global Witness have been pushing companies to report data in the EITI report. Civil society has been calling on the companies to report payments on a company-by-company basis.
