Quel regard portez-vous sur l’Initiative pour la transparence dans les industries extractives (Itie) ?
C’est un processus plutôt positif. L’Itie a reçu le soutien des Nations unies, du G20, du G8, de l’Union africaine, de l’Union européenne… Mon pays, le Gabon, riche en pétrole et en manganèse, a l’ambition d’améliorer sa façon de redistribuer les revenus provenant de ces industries. C’est pour cette raison que le gouvernement gabonais est candidat à l’Itie. Mais il n’a toujours pas obtenu le «diplôme» de l’Itie qu’on appelle la «conformité»…

PWYP Delegation Visits Gabon

A PWYP delegation comprised of Michel Roy (PWYP France – Secours Catholique), Christian Mounzéo (PWYP Congo) and Marie-Ange Kalenga (PWYP Africa Coordinator) travelled to Libreville in Gabon from 26 April to 1 May 2009, following an invitation from the President of the EITI Interest Group, Mr. Patrice Otha. The mission was set up at a meeting between PWYP representatives and the Gabonese delegation at the EITI Global Conference in Doha, Qatar, in February 2009. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate dialogue between PWYP Gabon and the Gabonese government and to encourage peaceful and effective civil society participation in the EITI process, particularly in view of EITI validation.

Doha: Publish What You Pay (PWYP), the global civil society coalition, said today that the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) needs to redouble its efforts to protect civil society activists and ensure that civil society is an equal partner in efforts to achieve transparency in natural resource revenue management.
US Congress Condemns Arrest And Detention Of Anti-corruption Advocates In Gabon
Washington, D.C. – In a bipartisan rebuke against corruption, several Members of Congress and leading advocacy organizations condemned the government of Gabon for the arrest and detention of five anti-corruption advocates and demanded that all charges be dropped. The men were arrested on New Year’s Eve, held initially without formal charges, and then released on January 12th. Despite their release, the charges are still pending.
