Publish What You Pay France, launched in 2003, was the first national PWYP coalition. The coalition has focused on extractive transparency at the EU level but also forged partnerships with PWYP coalitions in Francophone Africa.
PWYP France worked closely with coalitions in Congo-Brazzaville and Niger, conducting research projects and helping members access an international platform. Most recently, PWYP France member Oxfam France supported PWYP Niger’s work for AREVA – the French nuclear giant – to negotiate a fair deal for Niger’s uranium.
The coalition played an important role in the introduction of mandatory disclosure rules in the EU. Since the adoption of the transparency & accounting directives in June and November 2013, PWYP France has been engaging the French government for an effective and swift transposition of these directives. The coalition also works on issues of tax justice, particularly around the extractives.
