IMF Managing Director's visit to Africa

The Publish What You Pay Nigeria Campaign welcomes the visit of the IMF Managing Director Mr. Rodrigo de Rato to Africa. During the trip to Africa, Mr. Rodrigo de Rato is expected to visit Nigeria, Gabon and Ugandan to meet with government and Civil Society representatives.

According to Rev. David Ugolor National Coordinator of Publish What You Pay Nigeria Coalition, the visit of Mr. Rato to Nigeria and other Africa Countries at this point in time when Africa oil resource- rich countries are assuming a strategy importance in the global energy security provides a critical challenges for IMF to support transparency and accountability in the application of its policy especially in the management of public finance from the extractive Industries in Africa.

The coalition further urge the IMF boss to deepen the institution support for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Africa resource- rich countries like Nigeria, Gabon, Chad, etc.

At the Nigeria civil society interactive session with the IMF Managing Director Publish What Your Pay Nigeria Coalition will be presenting an official letter from the 50 members of the coalition to Mr. Rodrigo de Rato.
