News: Vacancy: Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Uganda Coordinator

Launched in Uganda in 2008, The Publish What You Pay–Uganda (PWYP-U) campaign has grown and attracted over 40 Civil Society Organizations involved in promotion of Transparency and Accountability in the Extractives Sector. The Coalition aims at promoting Uganda’s efforts to become and EITI candidate, as well as informs citizens about the EITI process and implementation.

To be able to strengthen its work, the coalition seeks services of a strong and competent person to work as a National coordinator. The Coordinator will be based at the PWYP-U host organization, Probiodiversity Conservationists in Uganda (PROBICOU’s) office in Kampala. The Coordinator shall report directly to the Steering committee, but shall receive day to day support from the Executive Director of PROBICOU. It is expected that the Coordinator will have a dotted reporting line to the PWYP East & Southern Africa Coordinator, based in Nairobi.

Roles of PWYP Uganda National Coordinator

Publish What You Pay Uganda National Coordinator will perform the following roles:

  • Coalition building, communication, networking and outreach across Uganda
  • Conduct advocacy on behalf of the coalition
  • Fundraise, manage grants and make reports on behalf of PWYP-U
  • Skills and Academic qualifications


  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in, Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration, Mass communication, Development Studies, Economics, Law , human rights or relevant Social Sciences discipline from a recognized University
  • A masters degree or postgraduate training in Natural Resources Governance, Public Relations and Diplomacy, Economics and Development, Environment, Human Rights Mass communication and Journalism, Project Planning and Management is an added advantage
  • Experience

  • At least 5 years working experience with an advocacy agency (national or international NGO)
  • Three years experience in Natural resource, transparency and accountability related campaign is essential
  • Having worked with a coalition is an added advantage
  • Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of finance and audit processes and managing and developing budgets
  • Excellent personal communication, negotiation & report writing skills
  • Results/Performance Orientation – proven “self-starter”
  • Strong analytical abilities and detail orientation
  • Knowledge of the NGO landscape, managing coalitions and the extractive industry
  • Familiarity with the global extractive industry transparency and accountability movement
  • Experience in, and understanding of advocacy on good governance and transparency on natural resource revenue
  • Excellent communication, writing, editing and presentation skills
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • At least 4 years experience living and working in Sub-Saharan Africa
