This documentary, which premiered at the Publish What You Pay 10th Anniversary Conference in Amsterdam on 17 September 2012, follows the activities of Ali Idrissa who coordinates the PWYP Niger national coalition which is called Réseau des Organisations pour la Transparence et l'Analyse Budgétaire (ROTAB). The film highlights the work of just one of PWYP's national coalitions which are campaigning for greater transparency and accountability in the oil, gas and mining industries.
Greater financial transparency in the extractive industries can help citizens in resource-rich countries to hold their own governments to account and ensure all revenues are used for the public good. The film also highlights the environmental and health risks related to the extraction of gold by communities in Niger. Detailed financial reporting as well as transparency relating to contracts and environmental impact assessments can also help citizens to make an informed choice about the costs versus benefits of choosing to exploit a natural resource.
