Recent activities

In June, the government of Niger signed a contract with the China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation, granting them oil production rights in the Agadem block. Union officials from the Ministry of Mines denounced the opacity that characterized the negotiations leading to the signing of the contract. Civil society members of ROTAB/PCQVP (the PWYP affiliated civil society coalition in Niger) will be monitoring developments within the Agadem block.

At the end of March the US Department of State organized a study and exchange program on the theme of “Transparency and Good Governance,” for public service officials, civil society and the media from various countries in French-speaking Africa. During this event participants decided to create a pan-African non-governmental network, called African Good Governance Network, (RAG/AGG), to fight against corruption in all its forms and advocate for citizen control of the management of public affairs in Africa. ROTAB/PCQVP is part of this new network.
