Natural resources include graphite, chrome, coal, bauxite, ilmenite, nickel, gold, oil, tar sands and uranium. Currently, about 4% of government revenue is generated by the oil, gas and mining sector. However, the USGS has stated that Madagascar’s mineral industry is likely to grow significantly from 2010-2012 and some oil exploration is underway in both offshore and onshore oil blocks.
