At the end of the PWYP African regional meeting, which took place at Limbe on March 2007, a regional action plan was approved by the PWYP coalitions throughout Africa.

In order to further develop, improve and implement some sections of the action plan, the members of the PWYP campaign in Africa agreed to meet in Libreville, Gabon, from 27 to 29 June 2022 after an EITI training organized by the World Bank mostly for French-speaking countries in Africa.

The PWYP workshop saw the participation of at least one representative from coalitions from the following countries: Mauritania, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Sao Tomé and Principe, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, DRC, and Angola. Also present in this meeting were the 2 Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) representatives, the regional coordinator, and representatives of Intermon Oxfam, one of the NGOs that are most involved in the creation of a sustainable capacity-building strategy for African coalitions.

This meeting was a useful opportunity to discuss the capacity-building strategy that has been so far defined following the inputs of the March 2007 Limbe strategy meeting. It also helped honing up and enriching the PWYP protection strategy currently under elaboration. The workshop also saw the birth of the “ PWYP-Woman “ initiative for the promotion of women’s role in the PWYP African campaign. At the end of the meeting, the PWYP Gabonese coalition was officially launched.
